Day 7: Staying Focused

Initially, I was a bit nervous about this challenge.  But I knew that no matter what I had to challenge myself and with zeal no less, that I would make it happen.  I have been able to keep myself to at least 3 pages a day on my script and most days a bit more.  I enter day 7 at 24 pages with a trillion more to go but it's fantastic.  I cannot wait to get home from work everyday to hang out with my characters.  I was worried about how I would be able to get into that mindset after working all day.  So, this is what I decided to do.... On my way home I would begin the transition.  I start to think about them and where they were when I left off the night before.  I let my mind wander around the characters and their personalities.  I daydream about anything regarding them even if it doesn't pertain to what needs to happen next in the script.  By the time I reach the house I am in that mode.  The very first thing I do is set up my computer to write.  After every installment, I chat with Las Mujeres (Sakinah & Jay) to share the updates.

Things I love for 5,000, Alex?  The fact that they're already so invested in the characters.  I feel like I'm telling a story to them everyday about real people, Sakinah & I might be in love with the main character.  lol  But all of it feels so great to be able to live with the characters who feel like completely new people in my life.  It's like a new television show that I get to watch a piece of everyday.

  3. There are some things. First is my family and friends, but I haven't figured out how to make work out of that. Other than that I want to help people. I have an opportunity to go do that in a major way. Now I just need the courage to go and do it. Stepping away from what I have known for so long, and walking down a new path is kind of scary.

  4. Yes, it is...super scary. i face it all the time. sometimes doing what we know feels comforting. but that can lead to a life of complacency. we must be active live-ers. you have a great opportunity in front of you. go for it!!! the courage you seek is in the act of taking that leap to go after what you want. you'll be nervous and that's good b/c that feeling let's you know that you're pushing yourself. the opportunity is there b/c, believe it or not, you ARE ready. i know that you'll be happier when you do it, trust me. honestly, what is the worst that could happen? really, tell me. :)

  5. There is no "worst" that can happen. Life is about making decisions, and I don't think there are right and wrong ones. I think we makes deicsions the best we can and that leads to new decisions. SO to your point I think i just need to make that decision. And if it is "wrong" there will be other decisions to make and my experiences (good and bad) will help inform that next decision.

And you are right about being nervous. Some of my best accomplishments in life came directly after I was scared to death. I don't know why, but somehow it feeds me and drives me to excel.

I like where your heads at. Good luck with the script. If nothing else you got me curious about the characters and story.

  6. very well put. what ever is your hearts desire can't be "wrong" anyhow. and i felt that scared feeling last night at this audit i did for an acting class. i knew instantaneously it was the good kind..that would lead me somewhere great. :)

so, what did you decide? i'm so excited to hear...and where will it take you, if you don't mind me asking.

thanks, on all accounts..i like to think it's the "like minds" type of thing. lol i'll post an update on the script in a few days. wish you the best.
