While looking at the floor in my bedroom last week and all of the clothes that had accumulated, I asked myself, "How did I get here, again?" I made the determination a few months ago to get and keep my house in order and did...for awhile. Then, it hit me...it's a mirror for life. Here's the thing, I often get that "got it", you know? I have epiphanies and whatnot but somehow lose the excitement of the realization after a few weeks/months. What really makes all the difference is keeping up the practice of implementing said epiphany or else I'll find myself with crap all over the floor even though there are 2 hampers for sorting laundry in the closet. lol Additionally, I must practice envisioning my goals everyday without fail. If I don't, I end up sliding back into seeing life only as it is currently and wondering why nothing has changed. I have to experience the joy of where I'm going everyday in order to make it come into existence. If I don't constantly see and feel myself on the set/in that meeting/in that relationship how will it come about? How will I be able to notice the intuitive nudges that lead me on that path if I'm not currently connected to the vision?
My friend Julia previously invited me to attend a networking soiree she was throwing in Santa Monica last night but I ended up getting off of work later than I thought. I wanted to just go home and sit in a bath and practice more imagining. Instead, because my intuition told me I was supposed to have a conversation there, I went. I ended up meeting five amazing young women and had incredible conversations. Actually, the second woman I met after chatting for a bit asked what I did and I told her I was developing my reel as a Director. She proceeds to tell me immediately that "We need to talk..." and that she has people who are looking for female Directors. Fan-f'ing-tastic! Everything is meant and I know for sure that because I keep putting my goals in the forefront of my mind in every aspect of everyday I'm pulling their actualization in so fast. Man, I'm telling you I am paying bills and living off of my passion a.s.a.p.
It's like in The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, I have to make a new habit or new agreement. In order to do that I have to break the practice of the old which equals the old way of living, loving, learning and the only way to truly do that is to institute a new agreement. I have to decide, for one, and hold fast to that decision, secondly, to really see a change. If I just make a decision but don't put any power (i.e. feeling or action) behind it I might as well just keep the old way because I really don't believe in what I want. I'm just making random wishes. Everyday, my belief grows stronger. I see myself there now, and I mean right now. The lil inner hater is still lurking about but she's becoming miniscule with every prayer, renewed determination and "chance" occurrence. Loving life :)

Day 22: Finishing what you've begun
Today is day 22 and I start this day with only 31 pages. My job took a turn for the crazy. Insert me getting home after midnight on prep days and shooting overnight. I started to lose sight of the characters. When I came home from work to start on the script I felt like I was forcing things and got frustrated. The main character just started to seem really wack and uber typical. It was time to put a halt to all of that. On the shoot day of my current job, I ended up in a conversation with of my PAs who is a writer. I started talking to him about the script and he gave me a gem of a pointer. He said in addition to doing the character and plot breakdown what he'll do sometimes is cut out pictures of people or a person who looks like each of his main characters. That way he can look at a board of them and see their eyes, what they would wear and that enables them to take on their own voices in his head. Because a lot of the time all you hear is your own voice. Super fresh, right? Thanks, Marc ;) The other great thing about our convo is that I had another opportunity to discuss my concept and work on making it more succinct. I felt really good about how I relayed it to him. T-t-totally winning.
Now that I'm back in the land of the living (i.e. more rested) I realize time is running out. We've got less than a week left and I'm not at all where I thought I was going to be. Things started out so well! lol Isn't that life, though? Yesterday, I made a great effort at focusing and got out another couple pages. I'm only up to 31 but at the same time...I'm up to 31 pages!!! That's lightyears away from where I began. No matter where I end up on June 30th (I'm still shooting for at least 60 pages), I'm still winning.
Sidebar: "Randomly" met my main character while out with my sisters and a friend Sunday. The guy had the same name, job description and ethnic heritage. I've never been to the place we went before in life. Hadn't even heard of it until that day. Yeah, I think I'm on the right track. :)

Getting Here...
Alternatively entitled:
"Capitalizing on an Opportunity: Part 1"
"Capitalizing on an Opportunity: Part 1"
I had a wonderfully inspired thought last week while guess where..in the shower. So, I was thinking that I could begin to make a name for myself shooting music videos for major artists without them and post them on youtube. I could get really good actor friends to impersonate them for me and get my ideas out. I know a slew of choreographers and dancers, too. My ideas are
This recognition has given me the chills..the good kind. Seeing that vision...I feel it..I'm already there...I see it...I'm a director! I'M A DIRECTOR!!! It finally became crystal clear to me. I saw that the reason I had to go through all of these years being here, working the way that I did to get to this point is so that I would NEVER have to work for anyone else as a director. I could start my own company straightaway with all of my contacts that I've acquired to date. I can do what I want, create what I want. I just have to remember that I'm not a failure unless I stop trying and that's never going to happen.

I'm Inspired By: Cecy Galvan
I remember the first time I met Cecy at a friends house. She'd just flown in from NY and was exhausted. Now, Cecy is petite with a swag on about a hundred thousand trillion. Because of my experience in the commercial industry, I assumed she was a stylist or makeup artist. They all have that certain jene si quoi...fly makeup and boots, etc. Wrong. She's a Publicist and had just finished putting together a photo shoot with all of the Wayans', 1st and 2nd generation, to promote their (at the time) upcoming movie "Dance Flick". Cecy hails from San Jose, CA and has been here for 9 years. She's a super grinder and went through the struggle that we all go through. She started out at one company, helped to build up that company only to not get her just due and was treated like she was expendable. The difference, you may notice a common theme here, is she decided to continue to press on. She didn't take the slight sitting down or give up. She continued to build up her relationships with clients that she devoted energy to when no one really believed in them and gave them her all even though she was getting paid pennies...at best. When she left the company, one by one, all of the talent she helped build a name and fan base for, followed her...all the way to her own public relations company.
The real is this, when you put in the maximum effort, you give "100." someone will notice. Someone will see that your gift and work ethic is something they cannot do without. The talent Cecy was helping could see easily that she truly cared about their success and wanted the best for them. She didn't go about it in a shady manner. She kept her nose down and kept grinding with the faith that her passion and drive and determination would bear fruit. When it did.....she didn't have to wait years to become a senior PR or possible partner of another firm. She made her way by herself, started her own firm and continues to break boundaries and barriers. She makes herself, at all of 5ft, a force to be reckoned with through tenacity, creativity, a love for what she does and a vision that she sees through to the end. Cecy is definitely a grind star, she's probably right now moving on no sleep but doesn't complain a bit. She's doing what she loves and best of all, like Frankie says, "My Way".
