What's In a Name?

Do names have power? According to most folks they do. In fact I came across this one site that goes as far as saying a name should be based on one's astrology charts, temperament and gender of course. Check this site out, I was able to get an initial reading for free 99. The results were disastrous. It said in a nutshell that I'm going to turn out to be Wack Sauce. No thank you name generators. Perhaps a name is given power by the power we give it, but a name is really just a name. What do yall think? More important than the history of a name is the back story to the name itself. I'm actually named after Michael Caine's wife Shakira. That's right, there is an elder amongst us who pronounces her name probably differently than the belly dancing shaker and myself. So noooo my name is not pronounced like the singer but rather (Sha-Kye-ra). That's what happens when an American southerner tries to pronounce an Arabic name. But I appreciate it mom...after all it means Thankful. And I love the fact that you spotted her in a magazine and said I want my daughter to look like her. Well actually that's kinda creepy considering my dark features and the fact that we (moms and I) don't look anything alike. But Michael Caine is the man, what an honor it would be to work with someone of his stature. Lastly, my French last name means to win. (Gagnier) Yes I am a born winner. :)

P.S. Who knew? Shakira is also part of DC COMICS and first appeared in Warlord #32, 11/80. YES!!! She's a shape shifter.
